When Earthly Wisdom Fails – Part 1
An interesting discussion with a climate change advocate who believes human activities are making the earth warmer soon revealed that this advocate (like most climate change advocates) does not believe in the Word of GOD, he contended that The Scriptures contradicted itself and sent me two links, one to an atheist website and another to an infidel website.
I opened the atheist web link after a short prayer, and discovered that the so called contradictions were serious misinterpretation of GODs’ word, in a nutshell, these atheists wrongly interpreted GOD’s Word to suit their warped thinking, no wonder Apostle Paul described them as “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” 2 Timothy 3:7 KJV. Meanwhile, our Lord Jesus Christ summarized the totality of their Scriptural knowledge using these timeless words: “Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?” Mark 12:24 KJV. A summary of what atheists called contradictions revealed their confusion over GODs’ Sovereignty, that’s the ability of The Law Giver to mold His laws to help bring His creatures to perfection. This is almost similar to questioning the power of a president to pardon the crimes of a criminal. Therefore, since the Lord Jesus Christ didn’t turn the Sadducees away, I believe it is proper to reveal their lack of understanding. I intend to present Scriptures where atheists demonstrated confusion over Scriptures, along with answers to assist them in overcoming their confusion.
Confusion regarding the Sabbath Day
GOD said, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” — Exodus 20:8
Paul opined, “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” — Romans 14:5
Atheists claimed that Apostle Paul’s word contradicted God’s expressed commandment regarding the Sabbath day.
We conclude: “And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” (Mark 2:23-28 KJV)
Try and digest this gem, man was not made for the Sabbath, rather, the Sabbath was made for man (we shall return to this shortly). Consider for now this powerful revelation, Christ is Lord of the Sabbath, and by extension His servants are equally lords of the Sabbath! How? As we partake of His suffering, we equally partake of His power: "The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?" Matthew 10:24-25 KJV.
Therefore, it is not a strange thing for Paul who is highly qualify in the laws of GOD to opine that since GOD made the Sabbath for the benefit of mankind, then mankind can decide on the day of the week which best achieve that purpose, which is a day of rest, holiness and meditation on the things of GOD.
GOD initially designated the day He rested (a Saturday) as the Sabbath Day. However Christians decided that Sunday would be our Sabbath Day (because Christ rose from the dead on that day). Nonetheless, the main question is why is rest important? Why mark out a whole day as a day of rest? Simple answer, restful meditation releases revelations on one hand and solidifies our relationship with our awesome GOD on the other hand.
Isaac Newton discovered the law of gravity while resting under an apple tree. Archimedes reasoned out the law of displacement while taking a relaxing bath, Moses spent several days on end in meditation and talking to GOD and gave us GODs’ Commandments, along with several important Books of the Bible, in a nutshell, the ability to rest and meditate on GOD’s word reveals solutions to present and future challenges.
